The Kyma Physical Modeling Toolkit
I have developed a Physical Modeling Toolkit based on Modal Synthesis (Modes of vibrations). What makes this toolkit very special, is, in fact, its integration with the Kyma environment itself. For instance: resonance and amplitude data can be obtained from the spectrum anaysis tool. Two other examples: you can use the CrossFilters for modeling the body of the instrument, and you have endless possibilities for creating excitation signals. Last but not least you can develop tables for non-linear string and bore behavior. Important: there is almost no restriction on the number of modes of vibration. All the demo's are made with a system which has two DSP cards (4 processors) above the basic system.
(Thanks to Kurt Hebel and Carla Scaletti for adding support for my algorithm and helping me optimize it for Kyma. Also thanks to Edmund Eagan for making some demo’s on the Continuum Fingerboard).
The toolkit comes with a huge library of instruments, ranging from guitars, Eastern plucked strings (like the Sitar) to a large number of wind instruments (Saxophone, Shakuhashi, etc.), Keyboard instruments (Clavichord, Clavinet, Hammond, etc.) and of course lots of percussion.
So take a close listen to the demo mp3’s (many of them are recorded without any reverb, because some details of instrument behavior are lost in space...).
The price of this toolkit is 189 US Dollars.
